What is ALS, in simple words?
ALS is a disease that slowly weakens muscles. Over time it can affect movement and, for some people, speaking and breathing too. Every course is different. There is no cure today, but multidisciplinary care and early support make a real difference.
What is voice banking — and what does blyven do?
Voice banking is a clinical service usually arranged through a speech therapist. You record short standardized sentences that are later turned into a synthetic voice on a tablet or phone — so the person can keep speaking in something that sounds like them. blyven is different: we record real, freely spoken stories — memories, answers, letters read aloud — for family and trusted people. The two complement each other but are not the same. Many families do both.
Can someone still record once their voice has changed?
Yes, absolutely. Even a changed voice is still that person's real voice — and that's exactly why it's valuable. blyven works with no minimum length, no required questions and no audio quality check. A rough or quiet voice preserves family history just as well as a strong one. Joint recordings with a family member who can fill in details are also possible if the person living with ALS no longer has the strength for longer stories.
